Fast Workstation PC

I recently bought this SER5 when it was <$250 after coupons. At that price, this is a very good little mini PC. It is an upgrade from a 3 year old Terryza (no longer offered on Amazon) with a J4125 CPU. That PC worked fine until a few months ago when our internet seemed to slow considerably on only that PC, and not several other PCs in the house. It turns out that was a faulty 5-port unmanaged switch at the PC, but I used the internet issue to justify an upgrade. I paid about $186 for that Terryza in 2020 and about $70 more for this one. The difference is amazing. The Terryza served us well for Office, internet browsing, YouTube streaming, Spotify streaming, etc. We don’t play games on any computer, so that was never an issue. This new Beelink is so much faster, it’s pretty amazing. I use Novabench to benchmark my PCs, and went from a combine score of ~775 to 1,776. Sure my main photo editing PC hits just over 5,000, but for day-to-day tasks I can’t tell the difference.

FYI: The Novabench graphics test resulted in 14 FPS on the Beelink vs. 4 FPS on the older Terryza.

There is virtually no fan noise at all. I have to put my ear to the PC to hear the fan and cannot hear anything with it mounted behind my monitor. I did have to buy a new monitor (I got the ~$100 Sceptre F24 – very nice) because my old cheap 22″ Acer had neither HDMI nor DP and this Beelink does not have VGA. Oh well, the new monitor is also a very nice upgrade in our kitchen over the old Acer.

The PC does produce some heat, but not a lot. I did notice that a flashdrive I had to use that had an older Adobe Acrobat Pro that I wanted to re-install from the Terryza got very hot after transferring only 725 MB of install files. That’s probably more a problem with the flashdrive than the USB port, but I have yet to investigate.

The PC I received had absolutely no bloatware that I could find (searching programs, services, start-up files, uninstall apps, and going through the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders). If they stuck something in there, I can’t find it.

Overall, we are very happy with this $250 mini PC. Only time will tell if it will hold up, but for the time being it’s quite, small, fast and seems to have a clean OS. It’s not a gamer, but it is a very powerful unobtrusive little workstation PC.

This computer is fast, it has windows 11 and is worth the money. My wife uses it for a virtual online job this thing connects to it beautifully. It surpassed the requirements that she needed for a desktop computer. the only reason that i didn’t give it 5 stars for quality is that the usb ports aren’t as tight as i would like but they all work fine. this computer is fast and works great for this intended purpose AMD ryzen 5 series of chips are great and they work with windows 11. it’s an upgrade she had windows 10 before and had an intel core i7. never switching back to intel. This little sucker worked right out of the box. A++
as for any questions about gaming, you should get a faster computer, this unit i have is not used for gaming.

Rather powerful personal & game Server

This is a rather powerful mini-computer, after I got it I bought it two 32 GB RAM sticks (Crucial CT2K32G4SFD832A) and installed it (which was very simple), then I installed Proxmox and made a couple LXC containers with resources reserved for game servers and it is quite effective.

So far it has been able to handle Minecraft (Paper) servers, so I decided to throw in a Palworld server and it runs rather well, Ethernet speeds are also on point. I can not say too much since the traffic it gets it’s ~5 people at a time but for networking outside the network seems responsive and it’s just enough for what I need.

Generally, it is a really powerful PC that I used to make a server, which has shown no performance, or network problems.

It is a great computer for regular office applications. I upgraded the memory to 32GB because I open several excel documents at the same time. It works great but keep in mind that the video capabilities are a little bit limited. The max resolution is 3840 X 2160. Sounds great unless you have a 49” monitor that can handle a higher resolution. I also it comes with only 1 USBC port. I definitely recommend this computer for its capabilities and its very small profile. Not so much for gaming.

I’m used to a pretty fast full-size desktop PC (i9-13900K, RTX 4090, 32GB RAM, NVMe M.2 2TB HDD), and this thing, relative to the size & cost, gives it a run for its money. I haven’t tried gaming but I’ll try to update this review if I do. Had to email support to get a new key to activate Win11.

Love the small size, and fairly comprehensive number of ins and outs. Seems to run really fast. I actually had my first unit crap out on me, total refusal to power on. Amazon tech support could only go so far, Beelink support was way more in-depth (swapping DIMMS, SSD, etc.), but eventually had to be returned, easy-peasy. Got a second identical unit (no buyer’s remorse!), I just swapped my SSD into it and was off to the races. A month later I noticed that Windows 11 Pro wasn’t “activated”, and I couldn’t find the activation code for the new box. No problem, Amazon directed me to Beelink, Beelink give me a new code overnight, and I’m a VERY happy camper! Would 100% want to buy from this vendor again!

Après la mise à jour du BIOS (version correspondante au modèle vérifiée), tout se passe bien mais au redémarrage (normal à la fin d’une maj) l’appareil reste bloqué sur l’écran de boot Beelink sans aucune possibilité d’en sortir.
J’ai dû acheter un clavier avec touchpad filaire USB mais pas plus de réaction de la machine bloquée pour une raison inconnue.
Retourné à Amazon et un nouveau modèle identique (GR7 16/512) commandé (prix augmenté entre-temps).
D’après le forum Beelink cela se passe souvent mal.
Beelink ne fournit aucun mode d’emploi ni procédure de mise à jour.
Mise à jour du BIOS à éviter si l’appareil fonctionne bien mais si c’est nécessaire pour passer à W11 ….. !

PS : J’ai repris le même car j’avais déjà investi dans un SSD M2 et un SSD 2,5″ pour l’équiper totalement.

PS bis : nouvel exemplaire reçu et mis en service, je m’aperçois que le son inexistant sur le précédent est fonctionnel sur ce dernier, le lecteur d’empreinte, qui avait eu beaucoup de mal à enregistrer lors de la configuration de mise en route et qui par la suite ne répondait pas sur le précédent, fonctionne parfaitement sur le nouveau.
Le 1er exemplaire était donc bien défectueux.
Je ne tenterai quand même une mise à jour du BIOS que si ça devient absolument nécessaire.

PS ter : En examinant les micrologiciels en téléchargement sur le site Beelink il apparait que ceux-ci sont mal triés et qu’en chargeant celui pour 3750H on se retrouve avec un pour 3550H !

I don’t like laptops. I don’t like the keyboard layout and the distance keyboard to screen. I just can’t work well on a laptop. So I decided to get a miniPC and an external (USB-C powered) monitor plus wireless keyboard and mouse. The Beelink SER7 has worked out great! I got an Upperizon U156UH monitor (also from Amazon) and everything just worked out of the box. I replaced Windows with linux though. That installation went very smooth as well. The speed seems really good so far. I don’t play games so I can’t judge that. I do have to give presentations a lot … so I can bring this tiny SER7 box with me and plug it into whatever monitor is available on site. Yes, very happy with this purchase. Price including monitor was still less than a laptop of comparable power … of course no battery with this setup. I don’t tend to work in Starbucks or such though … always a remote office and a plug is not hard to find.
